Best social media management tools (2022)

By Corey Hinde

Use a social media management tool well, and not only will you save time, you’ll grow your business too.

We all know that social media (Facebook, Instagram etc) provides us a great opportunity to connect with potential customers, the community generally, and simply promote and grow our businesses.

But, with the ever changing platforms, the number of them, and the need to log in, create posts, keep up to date with comments and messages, run ads and switch from place to place…. Very quickly we are in need of some help!

Hence, the rise of social media tools.  There are LOTS of them now!

Business owners can streamline, save time, and use these platforms better than ever before.

The 3 main reasons people gave us for wanting a Social Media Management tool?

1️⃣ Become more effective across the most important social platforms.

2️⃣ Save time – a LOT of time that can be invested into other things.

3️⃣ Stop missing messages on various platforms.

Using a social media tool is a no-brainer, especially for smaller businesses that don’t have large marketing teams.

❓ BUT – which one to pick?

The variety and choice is HUGE for Social Media Tools.

We’ve summarised many of them here, to try and guide you as you decide which one will best drive your business forwards.

These are listed in no particular order, and we have some notes about each one as well.

Quick note – there are probably 5 or more tools that will be perfectly fine for your business.  I strongly advise you to just pick one, and get busy using it.

Your business will thank you in the long run!

Another important note – this article contains NO affiliate links or paid recommendations, so we are honest and try to be as impartial as possible!

Right, let’s get into some social media tools!

Feedhive

https://feedhive.io/

Free Trial Option?  ✅  7 day trial.

Free Plan Option?  ❌

Plans: $19, $29, $99 per month options.

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 10/10

Our comments:  If it’s good enough for our friend Tucker (see comments below), then it’s good enough for us! Very affordable, seems to do all the things required.  I like any platform integrating AI as it shows a level of future proofing and thought.

Feedback from real people: Tucker Beardon, from Warrior Web Works: A client of ours has been using Feedhive and loving the simplicity and the AI features as well to ramp up their social presence.

Publer

Plans:  $0, $15, $28 per month.  The free plan is very generous.

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 9.5

Our comments:  We are going to trial this in our own agency, Good Oil Marketing, based on the reviews we have seen, and the simplicity we are hearing about.

Feedback from real people: Kirsten Bell, from Right Meow Web Design

“When I looked into social media scheduling tools, I wanted something that would save me time and would post to all the platforms I use.  At the time, I found that Publer was one of the only schedulers that included posting to Google Business Profiles (formerly Google My Business) and also to LinkedIn profiles.  So, now I use Publer to schedule my social media posts to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google Business Profile – all from the same place at the same time. Super easy!”

Sprout Social

Free Trial Option? ✅

Free Plan Option?  ❌

Plans:  $89, $149, $249 per month.

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 8

Our comments:  It seems like Sprout Social has been around forever, which is a good sign.  Very recognisable brand, lots of good feedback. A shame the entry price point is so high though, that will stop a lot of small businesses from using it.

Feedback from real people: Patrick Fallon, from Botsquad:

“Social Media is a HELL OF A LOT OF WORK – especially if you are a one woman/man band!

A good Social Media Management App like Sprout Social saves you time AND helps you craft better posts, thereby increasing engagement and your online presence.”

Plann That has everything you need in one space and is super easy to navigate. The platform has auto-scheduling, social strategies, content calendars, hashtag and caption suggestions. Not to forget an extensive results page that outlines all of your analytics from each platform.”

Free Plan Option?  ❌

Plans:  $29, $89, $199, $399 per month

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 9

Our comments: Looks like good value, good support, and easy to use.

Feedback from real people: Review from Cate on Capterra:

“The best thing about Sendible is the support. I love the interface – after wrestling with how to schedule content my clients can see! But the support is amazing. Customer service is clearly a high priority – as it is in my own business – so I love that any support emails are empathic and understanding as well as helpful. Often I receive a personalised video that shows me – in my own account – how to achieve my goals. to contact us to place your feedback

Free Plan Option?  ✅

Plans: $0, $12, $19, $35, $55, $119 per month

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 8.5

Our comments:  We are hearing simply amazing feedback about this solution, but have not tested it ourselves yet.  We DO love a solution that has the kahunas and smarts to offer a free lite version too.

Feedback from real people:  Amanda Roberts, agency owner at So the Story Goes says…

“I like Metricool for its simplicity. It saves my team and I a lot of time generating reports with the touch of a button so we can focus our time using that info to create more meaningful and actionable insights (and delivering greater thinking and value informed by those insights) for our clients – rather than compiling cumbersome reports that no one has time for/ wants to read anyway!”

Hootsuite

https://www.hootsuite.com/

Free Trial Option?  ✅

Free Plan Option?  ❌

Plans:  $49, $129, $739 per month + enterprise per month.

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 8.5

Our comments: We’ve read a lot of reviews online and while Hootsuite is a huge player in this industry, it seems like a lot of users like it, but don’t LOVE it. Certainly well established and seems to do everything needed though.

Feedback from real people: Alberto, a user review from Capterra:

“Overall the product has served us well; we’re still using it daily and are able to plan campaigns around our scheduling abilities, we’re able to connect directly with our customers and assigned potential customer service issues within our team with a few clicks. Over time however, social platforms are getting savvy to the needs of businesses are starting to build out their own business tools and scheduling/performance analytics hubs (Facebook Business and Twitter for Business for one). It remains to be seen how Hootsuite will compete with free as the platforms begin to grow this part of their businesses.”

https://www.zoho.com/social/

Plans:  starting at $15 per month

Likelihood that users will recommend (based on various internet sources): 9

Our comments:  We are aware of at least 2 agencies in New Zealand that use and recommend Zoho to their clients, which is a very strong endorsement.  They have a wider range of tools as well, so the potential to become a key software solution for your entire business is there.

Feedback from real people:  Stewart Gauld says:

“Social media management tools like Zoho Social (one of our favourites) allows us to reduce the time friction of jumping between different social media platforms for publishing content. Zoho also offers a comprehensive free plan that we use for managing all our channels (the free plan lets you connect up to 7 channels!) for one of our businesses.”

Feedback from real people: Stephen in Australia via Capterra:

Posting not only for my own businesses social accounts but that of clients. It is a no brainer in terms of a value add or upsell to my other services.

Some extra tips when doing your research:

► Always visit the pricing pages for each tool, and ensure you know the differences in their plans.  Some tools are designed for bigger agencies, some are more geared for solo operators and freelancers. Obviously check the capabilities around your most important platforms – If Facebook is THE most important platform for your business, investigate those features very thoroughly.

Google the tool, with “reviews” as well in the search, so you can find more information from actual users.  These are valuable, because you’ll find the good, and the bad or challenges.

► The Capterra website is very useful for further information.  We’d also like to acknowledge that we used that website during this research process.

► Check the Twitter accounts of the software tools as well, you’ll find all sorts of questions and answers there as well.

► You are more than welcome to contact our team to ask questions as well. We’ll give you an honest, unbiased opinion!
