Worried about the recent changes to Facebook? Here are 4 steps to help…
Don’t worry, you are not alone.
Zuck has people very worried about their Facebook presence for their business.
He’s been pretty clear, business pages will show up in the news feed less than ever before.
That’s a sad face for a lot of people.
There are a few things you can do.
You’ll see a lot of these posts at the moment, but I’ve got some alternative ideas that you can do easily, right now, and they’ll start to help straight away.
ACTION 1: reach out to a few people, or your whole list, and get them to ask Facebook, via the Following button, to see your content first.
What does this mean? When you click “Following” on a page you are looking at, you’ll see some options, tick the “see first” option so that Facebook gets the message that this page has valuable content. The more people that can do this for you, the better off your push through will be.

So the steps are:
- Ask friends, followers, anyone, to open your Facebook page
- Click on “Following”
- Click on “See First”
The more people that do that, the better.
ACTION 2: Work really hard to get people having a conversation on your posts. As soon as someone posts a comment, reply with a question. Spark some discussion, give value. The more comments on your post, the more reach it will get.
ACTION 3: Build a small, likeminded, power group. What is this? People with similar client demographics, or even just good business friends, who commit to helping each others posts. Build up a list of only 5-10 people, small enough to really commit to doing the work. Each day, spend a few minutes liking posts, putting up comments, and generally helping get some buzz going for your business buddies posts. It really helps a lot.
ACTION 4: Be brutal with what you put out. Look back through your page insights, and ONLY use posts in the future that you know work for YOUR clients. Your page insights are very useful, so get in there daily and have a look at what’s working for your page, and what’s not. Video works, do more. Long posts with interesting information still have value. Look at your oppositions pages, see what’s working for them too.
As an added bonus, I’d strongly recommend you follow some high quality bloggers, to see how they are reaching their people, and engaging with them.
Use their techniques, study their style.
Watch how they communicate about their new posts and how they generate buzz.
Build relationships, help more. Provide more value.
Some bloggers you should follow:
Darren Rowse from Problogger
Ryan Biddulph from Blogging from Paradise
Nick Loper from Side Hustle Nation
Arriana Huffington from the media mega business The Huffington Post
Rand Fishkin from Moz
Noah Kagan from OkDork and the Sumo businesses. I really love this guys stuff….
A few of these may or may not interest you, but look at how these people promote their content, build relationships, and have basically turned into media organisations. Can you develop your personal brand more effectively, starting with using better techniques for getting your Facebook posts through the algorithm?
I’ve personally had some online chats with several highly successful and well known bloggers, and the ONE THING I notice about all of them, is that they come first from a place of “how can I add more value” to the world, and how can I reach more people, with useful stuff. That really is it!
